The County Clerk, elected to a four-year term, is responsible for many areas of County Government. These areas include Clerk of the Board of County Commissioners (files County liquor licenses, resolutions, and Commissioners meeting minutes), County Budget Officer, Elections Officer, vehicle titles, records documents and files maps, maintaining cross-reference indexes to these records. The office provides for subsequent retrieval of records for public viewing, produces copies and certificates of records, and provides scanned duplicates of records.

The Town of Jackson is the county seat of Teton County and largest settlement in the area. Teton County is bounded on the North by Yellowstone National Park, the South by Sublette and Lincoln Counties on the West by the State of Idaho and the East by Fremont County. In 1990 Teton County had a population of 9,335 people. The Town of Jackson had a population of 4,677 people.
